2nd November - hand in and presentation

Finally got everything handed in yaaaaaay! I'm pretty happy with what I've handed in and especially like my illustrations...

The presentation went well we decided to have live models show the garment with a mini catwalk at the start of the presentation to some music. Then the presentation involved a visual display on a power point of all our work and each member of the group commentated. we had practiced everything we were going to say without using que-cards, but when it came to the actually presentation nerves got the better of me and i had to use them.

I was glad that the photo shoot was so successful as it really added to our presentation and to all of our look books.

The first Critical Studies session was on the Tuesday before hand-in.. bad idea. luckily the lecture was cancelled, but i had to miss the seminar to make sure i got everything done.

Tuesday

Reading week - actually involves MORE work

This weeks reading week and as if i would'nt have enough work to do in what's meant to be a week off, but oh no its elective time, so im in uni monday-thursday 9-5! I've not quite finished my jacket yet and i've still to do my look book and illustrations eurrggghhh! I WANT A BREAK! My hat is progressing though in millinery. I decided to look at architechture to inspire my hat designs and ended up looking at shapes similar to The Sydney Opera House. I need to plan out the shapes in paper and then use these paper shapes like a pattern to cut the sinemay... oh god i can't escape pattern cutting!

So far I've got the shapes cut out, folded, ironed and the sides sewn on. I held them together to get an idea of how it would look when all the shapes were attached to the fascinator base. Here's what it looked like...

I've arranged a photoshoot for application of design and come up with an idea that can involve the whole group. Since the theme running through our collction is electricity. I have chosen to use this in the shoot. My idea is to have the model wearing the garment posing next to a car. From the car there will be jump leads coming out of the open bonet and the model will be holding the other ends. They will also be holding sparklers in each hand to give the impression of electricity, as if the model is being "Charge"(d) from the car. I think it will look especially bold as it will be shot in the dark.

Monday

19th October

We had a tutorial with Gemma on our PPD stuff and preparing a C.V., email, cover letter and post card for applying for placements. She said my stuff was good, just a few spelling/grammar mistakes.

Postcard C.V.

Its only two weeks until hand in!!!

I've not finished my jacket yet, the main body of the jacket is together, but i need to do the leather patches around the collar before i can do the facing and lining. I'm coming in Saturday morning before work and i've been here long after 4 all this week. We put the collection together for a group tutorial and it looked pretty good. Its the first time we can really look at the collection as a whole, even though its not finished yet. Angie said that it was a strong collection and that the purple, electric theme running through it tied the garments together and was good branding.

Here's what it looks like...

The Jacket is mine, the trousers are Kate's and the top is Ella's. I love it!

12th October - Sense the stress a coming

So other than Application of design we've had our enterprise brief and the first lecture, which was VERY long... 3 hours! However, i do now know everything we're going to look at this term. We got started on the actual lectures as well, looking at being aware of politics, economy, society and technology when setting up and maintaining a business.

In application of design the timetable says we need to finish our garment by this week, which sounds slightly hopeful. i got started on my pattern today and finished cutting it out just need to run up my toile tomorrow, but i don't see me doing that all in one session. lets hope second time round goes quicker!

I've managed to source the fabric i needed! One of the fabrics we choose for the collection was one that Ella had brought in. and turns out the shop only does swatches of it. Its an upholstery tapestry fabric and i've found something similar online, on Ebay. Its a factory that are selling of rolls of it,l so it could even be used as the actual fabric in producing the 200 for sale.

Wednesday

5th October - GoGoGo

Turns out Shemin was ill... so we let her off and she's caught up on what we're doing now. No sign of amelia though, not sure what's happening there, but she's gunna be pretty behind if she decides to turn up. So we're progressing really well as a group and we've done a bit more research using the ideas out together as a group. We've also decided on who is going to design which aspect of our collection.

Me - tailoring
Kate - sportswear
Ella - tops
Shemin - daywear
Sharon - partywear

We had to name our collection and decide where it would sell, based on it being a diffusion line of MiuMiu. This confused us a bit at first, as MiuMiu is already a diffusion of Prada... we worked it out though and decided we would design a collection that was limited edition (only 200 hundred of each garment produced) and would sell as a concession in Selfridges across the UK. The name we've decided on is MiuMiu CHARGE. This came from the electric theme that will run through the collection and branding.

Talking of branding i put together some graphics we can use for swing tags and stuff...

Back to work! September 28th

Ok so its back to work and turning up for our first application of design session, i listen to the briefing (sounds good) and i have to have a word with Angie and go see my friend in hospital instead :(.

Next day, second session, try again. The brief sounds good... group work, could go wrong, we'll see. My group is... Ella Griffiths, Kate Bastow, Chemin, Sharon Banga and Amelia . So far Amelia and Che
min haven't been in, great start! So we all show are work we've managed over the summer and decide on some themes to take forward and what fabrics we're going to use.

Vintage style fabrics.... with an electric edge.

And geometric and architecturally inspired shapes...
